So when you’re doing creative work for hire, your clients/employers will usually fall into one of two types:
  1. The client has a specific vision of what they want, explain that vision to you in explicit detail, and expect you to adhere to it perfectly.
  2. The client has a specific vision of what they want, but claim they don’t and that you have “creative freedom.” They will then veto anything that does not fit their specific vision while refusing to actually explain what it is, which results in an incredibly frustrating game of “pin the tail on the donkey” throughout the duration of the project.
Whenever possible, you want to work for type 1.
